How to make my 1995 Pontiac Trans Am faster?

I have a stock 1995 Trans Am LT1 with an auto transmission. I recently purchased a flowmaster american thunder exhaust (cat-back)
I am not looking to spend alot of money at this point but I really want to make it fast as some of my friends have bought cars with LS1 engines. What the best ways to increase my hp? I am also planning on buying a ram-air hood/system. Anything at all but perferablly less expensive. Any ideas for how to make the interior better? upgrade speakers? Basically anything to make my TA out perform and look more impressive than the newer LS1's

To start with there really is no simple and cheap way to improve horse power a noticeable amount.

Do not buy a cold air intake. Your car all ready has a cold air intake from the factory a shiny piece of metal is not going to make the car any faster. just run a good wix paper filter and call that good.

a high flow exhaust will make the car sound much better but again it will not really make a noticeable difference in how fast the car is. It will sound faster but it will not really be any faster. So if you want to make the car sound better then go with a exhaust upgrade but do not expect it to make it any faster. You do not need to increase how well the exhaust breaths unless you also increase how well the engine breaths (port and polish or just a head upgrade).

The simplest and easiest way to make the most noticeable difference in the performance level of the engine would be to upgrade the cam. This can make a very substantial difference in how the car runs. Depending on your budget you may also want to upgrade the heads. If you go this route then you may also want to upgrade the ignition.

Just please do not fall for all the B.S. ways that people say will add horse power most of them do not work at all.

I am not saying that you can not make a LT1 outperform a LS1 I am just saying that you will need some engine work to get the LT1 to that point.

If I am so wrong than why is it that a WS6 Trans Am only has about 15 more horse power than a bone stock Formula Firebird.
The mechanical difference between the 2 cars engines is a SLP cold air intake and exhaust and a few other small differences maybe. so if the same motor with a the C.A.I. intake and high flow exhaust only gets 15 horse power difference at the wheels then how do you explain your completely B.S. claim of a 50 horse power gain from the same thing.
Also 15 horse power is not going make a LT1 keep up with a LS1 it would barley even be noticeable difference at the race track.
Also you can easily spend just as much money (if not more) on a so called quality cold air intake as you would spend on the cam. With the cam giving you much more power.
so why waste your time with the Cold air intake?
