automatic transmission?
in an automatic transmission does the transmission always switch gears at the same rpm? for instance will the transmission switch gears at a higher rpm if you accelerate very quickly or will it always switch gears at say 2500rpm or 3000rpm no matter what?
i was going up a hill the other day in my civic and the transmission wouldnt switch gears until about 5000rpm. is there something wrong with my transmission?
It varies depending on a number of factors, but primarily throttle position. The heavier your foot is on the gas, the higher the revs will be when it shifts since you'll get better performance when your engine revs more. So when you were on that hill, you had your foot down so it stayed in gear longer. On a hill, you needed it to, if it shifted sooner it probably would not have had the power necessary to continue up the hill.
I don't think there is anything wrong with your transmission based on your description.
