Prowler 5-5-5 method?
I have a 2001 ford escape, and I found the website escape-central so that I could recieve help with its upkeep and maintenance. Unfortunately, they aren't registering any names I try, so I can't ask this question there.
There is a member on the escape-central forums, Prowler, and he has an automatic transmission fluid exchange process which he calls the "Prowler Patented 5-5-5 method" which involves removing the drain plug, and allowing the approx. 4 qts of fluid to drain, and then putting in the same amount of fluid through the dipstick.
My question is: don't we need to have the engine running in order to put the 4 qts back in? Won't the tranny get damaged because of the low fluid level? Also, I am not sure about the dipstick part, is that really where we reintroduce the new fluid??

you should have the vehicle's engine running so the fluid flows into all the right areas at the same time. put one quart in first before you start the motor so it wont start up dry. and yes, that is where you put the fluid into. it goes in where you take out the dip stick.
