Why does my car stall while idle after the battery dies?

This is kinda a weird problem. The battery recently died in my car, and when I put it back in the car started stalling while idling. It doesn't do it immediately, it idles fine at first and then the tachometer starts going up and down at first it's goes from like 500 to 1000 rpms and then it starts going lower until it eventually stalls. It seems to spin lower when the emergency brake is off, which seems really odd. I already checked all the fuses.

It also loses oil, I don't know if that could be connected. It's a 1994 mazda mx3 and a manual transmission.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I should also mention that when the battery died, we went to jump it and my friend put the cables on backwards and blew a fuse. So is it possible that broke something?

I don't think the battery is dying, so I don't think it's the alternator.

Bad alternator. some say generator. it makes power while runs. powers the car and charges the battery. if it is broken (got water in it) then your car will run of the battery draining it dead.
